Only officially recognized by FIFA from the 1997 tournament onwards, which is called FIFA/Confederations Cup.

The so-called "Artemio Franchi Trophy", twice played between the reigning
European champions and Copa América winners, can be considered a
pre-cursor.  The relevant matches:
